Research Critique of Benefits of Systematic Phonics Instruction
The purpose of this study or major research question ââ¬Å"was to find if children taught with systematic phonics programs outperformed children in nonsystematic phonics or non phonics programs. â⬠(Graaff, Bosman, Hasselman, &Verhoeven, 2009) The authors do list a major research question, but the problem statement was not as clear as it could have been. The reader has to read in depth of the entire article to really bring conclusion to what is being researched. It is not very defined with clarity, but you are able to figure out what is being researched and tested. The problem is significant and relevant because the researchers are looking at two approaches using a control group of children enrolling them in five types of programs: Basal reading programs, regular curriculum, whole language, whole word, and miscellaneous programs. In whole language approaches, it is believed that children will learn language (oral and written) best if it is learned for authentic purposes (Stahl, 1999). The author states the computer-based experiment permitted us to compare the differences and effectiveness of a systematic and a nonsystematic phonics approach, because in both programs the same 10 grapheme-phoneme correspondences were taught. Hypothesis The authors open their article with, ââ¬Å"systematic phonics instruction appears to be more effective than non systematic instruction for teaching reading. â⬠(Graaff, Bosman, Hasselman, &Verhoeven, 2009) In the present study, a systematic phonics approach was directly compared with a non-systematic phonics approach for kindergarten children. Feature Articleà Country Schoolà Allen Curnow The authors clearly state what they feel will happen in their research but do not go into much detail other than one or two reviews from other authors of why they support the research in the pre testing of it the way that they do. The author explains on the measures of phonemic awareness, spelling, and reading, the systematic phonics group made more progress than the nonsystematic phonics group and the control group. Results The results of the test in the productive letter sound test at pretest were . 13. The performance showed to be no difference between the two training conditions in this section. The free sound isolation test at pretest was 0. The performance on the free sound- isolation test of children in both the unsystematic phonics training and in the control condition was found to have no difference. The measurement of the Reading Test found no difference between the phonics training and the same measure and outcome was found with the spelling test. The results of the testing procedures were hard to read and understand. The process used by Intra Class Correlation was the measurement used at the pretest. It never discusses the ICC during the posttest. Whether the ICC was used it never refers to it after the pretest discussion.

Langston Hughes’ “As I Grew Older”
In ââ¬Å"As I Grew Older,â⬠Langston Hughes describes the battle and perseverance for African-Americanââ¬â¢s freedom though numerous metaphors. In the title and first stanza, Hughes compares his dream to a child growing older. A child is born into the bright sun with the mindset with anything is possible. But as the child grows older, they face obstacles. Hughes also refers to his goals as ââ¬Å"my dream,â⬠which was different from the White-American's dream, expressing how personal this dream is. In the second stanza Hughes introduces the wall, his obstacles and racial separation itself. He uses commas to further elongate the seemingly never-ending process of the wall growing. With each line, Hughes is pressed to the side of the page, as if this wall is physically straining him from writing. The wall seems to grow and grow forever, until it finally touches the sky. With the wall blocking the bright light, Hughesââ¬â¢ dream is in the dark. Replaced by a shadow, Hughes declares: I am black. This simple statement not only refers to Hughesââ¬â¢ situation in the poems context but also his being African-American. A shadow of racism soon covers the country. Through the first four stanzas the attitude of the speaker is sad and hurt. The tone of the poem suddenly changes from being passive to active. Hughes urges his ââ¬Å"dark hands,â⬠his culture and people, to ââ¬Å"break thorough the wall! â⬠and help him ââ¬Å"break this shadow / into a thousand lights of sun! â⬠The ââ¬Å"dark handsâ⬠can also be a reference to slavery. Hughes believes that although there have been dark times, they can break down the wall of segregation to let in the lights of equality. Hughes' use of the sun as the goal expresses how far away the dream is yet how great an accomplishment this would be. This poem is a direct metaphor for Hughes' life and struggle with racism directed towards African-Americans. His own childhood scarred, Hughes hopes to break down this wall of the dominating White America. With the support of the African-American community, Hughes believes that they can overcome racism and segregation for equal rights. Hughes, Langston. ââ¬Å"As I Grew Older. ââ¬Å"

Bill French Case
1. What are the assumptions implicit in Bill Frenchââ¬â¢s determination of his companyââ¬â¢s break-even point? He has assumed that there is only one break-even point for the firmââ¬â¢s three products by taking the average. Labor Union will not affect the product prices no effect on the break-even analysis. Constant dividends were given to stockholders. Production of product ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠will be decreased and the other hand product ââ¬Å"Câ⬠capacity will be increased. Sales price will be constant. 2. On the basis of Frenchââ¬â¢s revised information, what does next year look-like: a. What is the break-even point? Break-even point for product ââ¬Å"Câ⬠is 354,545. 45 and overall is 1,035,688. 31. b. What level of operations must be achieved to pay the extra dividend, ignoring union demands? In order to pay the 50% extra dividend and to retain $150,000 profit the firm needs $600,000 profit after taxes and because half of the profit goes through the government the firm needs profit before taxes of ,200,000. c. What level of operations must be achieved to meet the union demands, ignoring break-even points? FC + Union Demands/Unit Contribution to Sales Union Demands = (6,750,000 x10%) = 675,000 2,970,000 + 675,000/. 375 $9,720,000 d. What level of operations must be achieved to meet both dividends and expected union requirements? FC + Target Dividend + Union Demands/Unit Contribution to Sales 2,970,000 + 450,000= (300,000(300,00050%) +675,000/. 375 $10,920,000 3. Can the break-even analysis help the company decide whether to alter the existing product emphasis? What can the company afford to invest for additional ââ¬Å"câ⬠capacity? Considering per unit dollar contribution of product ââ¬Å"Câ⬠to ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠is higher, the other factor is sales. And variable income to sales price is higher than C compensated by its lower sales. Increase in production of product ââ¬Å"câ⬠must not incur $300,000 of cost. 4. Calculate each of the three productsââ¬â¢ break-even points using the data in exhibit 3. Why is the sum of these three volumes not equal to the 1,100,000 unitsââ¬â¢ aggregate break-even volume? Itââ¬â¢s different because each of the products has different contribution margins, fixed cost, and volume sales. 5. Is this type of analysis of any value? For what it can be used? It allows differentiation of profits especially if the business is not engaged only on a single product. It helps business to identify how much still they have to sell/hurdle to earn profit. A tool that may help an entity set its sales or production target.

Chandler's claims for superiority of managerial capitalism' are specific to a particular time and place and cannot be generalized disscuss - Essay Example But in Scale and Scope the essential thesis is that between the 1850s and the 1880s the transportation and communications networks established the technological and organizational base for the exploitation à ¾f economies à ¾f scale and scope in the processes à ¾f production and distribution. (p. 58) The entrepreneurial response in distribution preceded that in production because innovation in distribution was primarily organizational, not technological. The reasons for the decline à ¾f commission agents and the growth à ¾f full line, full service wholesalers and mass retailers is not entirely clear from Chandlers analysis.[1] Many à ¾f the names à ¾f the mass retailers that emerged after the Civil War are still familiar today and include Macys, Lord & Taylor, Strawbridge & Clothier, John Wanamaker, Marshall Field, and Emporium. Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck came to dominate the rural market, relying heavily on mail-order operations. Politics of Professional Practice - Essay Example Moreover, the consequences of their usage in the provision of healthcare to various stakeholders involved in the provision of healthcare have not been adequately explained. This paper will attempt to come up with clear explanations of the usage of support workers in order to foster the understanding of the impacts of their usage in the provision of healthcare to the patients. The paper will explicitly explain the roles of the support workers, as well as the risks posed by the use of the support workers mainly due to their lack of training. In addition, the paper will explain the regulation that has been put in place to regulate the activities of the healthcare support workers (HSW) and any regulation that should be put in place to regulate their future activities to ensure that their usage does not compromise the quality of healthcare provided by the NHS. The impact on the other stakeholders involved in the healthcare provision will also be explained. By so doing, we hope to have a c lear understanding of the different dimensions of usage of the healthcare support workers. The paper will mainly use the articles by the NHS, RCN and other relevant bodies, as well as the recent research findings to have a more recent perspective on the development of the issue of healthcare support workers. ... 4). The support workers in nursing healthcare are of significant important especially during periods where there is a shortage of the nursing students who have graduated from the nursing schools (Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Treasury Committee - 2007 p. 76). Generally, the shortage of nurses is the main reason that led to the integration of the support workers in the provision of healthcare services by the NHS. The support workers help in easing the workload on the nurses and other healthcare providers by providing the healthcare services that can easily be provided by other parties. The shortage of the nurses was mainly due to the low pay nurses receive compared to other professions (Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Treasury Committee, 2007, p. 76). The support workers perform several roles in the NHS; there are support workers who are involved in the performance of non-clinical activities, whose roles include catering, maintenance, and hotel services. In addition, other support workers are involved in clinical activities; they may be involved in the provision of primary care to the patients i.e. GP surgeries, provision of care in nursing homes, patients homes and walk-in hospitals. The support workers may also be involved in the provision of secondary healthcare to the patients, mainly involving the provision of healthcare services to the patients in the hospitals (NLIAH, 2009, p. 2). However, there has been a general evolvement in the work performed by the support workers perform, which was mainly done by either the doctors or the nurses before. The work performed by the support workers can also be categorized as primary care or secondary care. Primary care involves the

Crimonal law - Essay Example This free exchange of word and expression was recognized by our fore fathers as one of our fundamental rights. They recognized, all those years ago, the importance of protecting Freedom of Speech and Expression. The importance of Free Speech has not diminished, and it is not for any individual entity to limit any citizenââ¬â¢s right to express himself peacefully save by amending the Constitution itself. That being said let us turn to the case at hand. Upon reading the circumstances surrounding the scenario provided I decided that I would evaluate the merits of the case based on the perspective of that of a defense attorney. In reviewing the case provided, the fundamental question that needs to be addressed is: Did the defendant in this case break any law? The prosecutionââ¬â¢s entire case is based on the defendant being arrested for being a public nuisance and causing injury, although indirectly, to Gloria Trek. The stateââ¬â¢s entire case rests on the constitutionality of the public nuisance statue and whether or not it infringes on the defendantââ¬â¢s right to free speech, which I will prove it does. Title 46 of the Florida Criminal Statues 823.01 which defines Nuisances states ââ¬Å"All nuisances which tend to annoy the community or injure the health of the citizens in general, or to corrupt the public morals, are misdemeanors of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.083, except that a violation of s. 823.10 is a felony of the third degree.â⬠(Public Nuisance, 2000, n.p.) This statute is very vague in nature and is by this very ambiguity subject to wide interpretation as to what constitutes being ââ¬Ëannoyingââ¬â¢. The phrasing of the statute in that manner allows for far too much discretionary power by individual law enforcement officers in deciding when and whom to arrest which brings into question the equal enforcement of the law and the discriminatory

Cinematography - Social Issues in Documentaries Essay
Cinematography - Social Issues in Documentaries - Essay Example Except that, there are also ââ¬Å"easyâ⬠movies that are intended to entertain and relax. However, there are rather serious genres that motivate people to think and read between the lines, implying deep inner sense. Among such genres, there are documentaries, films, which are often rather deprived of aesthetic embellishments and fancy fiction. These movies hold their own particular niche in cinematography, being rather different from fictional feature films because they do not try to colour the truth or distort reality. ââ¬Å"Documentary filmmakers seek to capture on film a representation of the world ââ¬Å"as it isâ⬠(or least a representation which is as undiluted as possible), (Tarantino, 2010, p.3). In a documentary movie, the author seeks to depict a real-life event or story objectively rather than through the prism of personal bias or perspective. According to academics, ââ¬Å"documentary is a form of argument about the historical worldâ⬠(in contrast to fict ional imaginary and metaphorical worlds) (Warmington et al, 2011, p.462). Moreover, as far as many films focus on relevant social, political, religious or cultural issues, the filmmaker may use them to communicate his message to the audience. Although unbiased and rather succinct in their nature ââ¬â and only sometimes with a pinch of sentimentality ââ¬â documentary can make people consider serious problems and think over their resolution. The peculiar features of such films are that they are unobtrusive, often feature only real-life characters (not actors) and show real footage of the depicted events. According to Ward (2008), the documentary is the type of nonfiction motion picture, which provides a specific opinion on a certain issue along with presenting facts. Thereby, the documentaries are peculiar in their nature due to a combination of objective factsââ¬â¢ presentation and clearly identified point of view regarding these facts. Documentaries focusing on social issues interact with and affect the audience and are likely to produce a significant impact on peopleââ¬â¢s minds.à Ã

Academic Honesty Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Academic Honesty - Essay Example Many students want to strive for the degree but they have difficulty maintaining academic honesty because of many factors. Many students must balance home, school and work. Others are taking too many course hours at one time. Still others have a lack of understanding as to how to do the work they are required to do. Many students are too intimidated by their instructors to ask questions or they do not know the questions to ask. All of these factors can stop a student from having the highest academic honesty possible. The question is, "Why is academic honesty important?" Most people would say that the reason has to do with a students ethics. Taylor-Mendes (n.d.) states that "Academic honesty is about protecting and preserving the reputation of your university degree and your personal integrity." (p. 1). Higher education and society benefit when colleges and universities have standards of integrity that provide the foundation for a vibrant academic life, promote scientific progress, and prepare students for responsible citizenship. (p. 5). Both authors state that it is important for students to be honest in their dealings in college because it helps them to become better citizens. The challenge for students who cheat is that if they are caught, it can ruin their chances of passing a class or of getting their degree. If they cheat on a job application and say they won the degree, they can be fired for falsifying the application at a later date. Values are another area that is being talked about when discussing academic honesty. As an example, Keohane points out that there are five values that universities should promote: "honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility" (p. 5). When these values are examined it may be said that some people have them, in some people they can be cultivated and some people do not care about them. In

Management and the Cultural Industries Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Management and the Cultural Industries - Essay Example Most experts say that larger corporations have the resources to cater to a large target market; it is the smaller independent producers who are responsible for catering to all the individual needs of the community. To understand this concept we will first look at the importance of this sector in the US economy. The US economy has been chosen because it has an abundance of small individual producers as well as large organizations and both have a significant impact on the consumption patterns of the population. Small businesses are generally the driving force behind most local economies. They contribute to the society by selling their products to customers, products that people need. They also provide employment opportunities to people, which can become reasonable career paths and choices. "Small business drives the American economy," said Dr. Chad Moutray, Chief Economist for the Office of Advocacy in a press release. "Main Street provides the jobs and spurs our economic growth. Ameri can entrepreneurs are creative and productive, and these numbers prove it." The cultural workers and their understandings are also very quintessential within the relevant scheme of things because these bring about a vital change in the working dynamics of the business realms and discuss how success could be made a vital part of the organizational setups (Logue, 2001). The argument against this is that large businesses have the financial backing to keep the business profitable even in the face of intense competition. Larger companies are more prepared to take on risk and are prepared to fail. This tendency allows them to make bolder decisions and be more aggressive in tackling opportunities. Successful businesspeople invest in expert advice. As a result, they make better decisions and take the right actions, for what they need to achieve. This investment allows them to not only learn from their past mistakes but make the best possible decisions in the future. Whatever differentiates the large businesses from the small ones, the fact remains that the businesses need to be run in a manner that incites growth, development and productivity across the board. This shall bear a great amount of positive results at the end of the day. Small businesses often are underestimated for the revenue they generate, and therefore they are considered inferior to the large conglomerates. This is however still questionable and we can see how exactly small companies benefit from this increased competition. The small business realms are large ones if they are handled in a proper way. What this implies is the fact that whole-hearted and concerted efforts and endeavors will win the small businesses what they aspire the most, and how success will come about with the advent of change within the technological manifestations which are taking place on a constant basis. How Small Businesses can effectively compete with the Larger Corporations? As we have seen above, the small business sector is really competitive even in this global economy, however now we must identify how this is possible. One of the biggest resources that companies can use is information technology, where companies can seem more professional to their customers. Using proper information technology tools and resources even small business can expand their customer base and carry out business outside their own

Outline - Essay Example The introduction part points out that some of the basic economic factors like price, income and unemployment can largely affect the whole social and political systems within a country. The body part of the paper analyses aggregate demand curve and aggregate supply curve, with emphasis on how price and other determinants like technology, consumer spending and wealth, exchange rate, investment and government spending etc affect aggregate demand and aggregate supply curve. With the help of diagram, the paper emphasizes that the curve of aggregate demand will always be downward sloping because of major three factors that are real-balance effect, interest rate effect and foreign purchase effects (McConnel and Brue, 194- 195). With the help of both short run and long run aggregate supply curves, the paper addressed key factors that can shift the curves. The paper concludes with opinions from authorââ¬â¢s point of view and with suggestions for conducting further analysis on the effects of exchange rates and impacts of unused resources on long run aggregate supply
Agricultural Wastes as Growing Medium for Pomelo Citrus Grandis Essay Example for Free
Agricultural Wastes as Growing Medium for Pomelo Citrus Grandis Essay The study was conducted to evaluate the use of agricultural wastes as useful growing media for pomelo (citrus grandis) as compared to fertile soil. This agricultural research aims to determine the higher-value uses of agricultural wastes such as animal manure, rice hulls and bran by using it as media for growth of pomelo. The scope included only the utilization native duck manure, fresh rice ban, fresh rice hulls and parboiled rice hulls. The process involves the preparation of pomelo seedlings, preparation of growing media, transplanting method, sustaining growth and monitoring growth of pomelo seedlings in terms of height of the plant and the number of leaves. The pomelo seedlings were observed to survive during the experimentation period. However, the growth varied from one medium to another. To compare the growth rate of pomelo seedlings in agricultural wastes and soil, the t-test was used. It is determined by the mean sample of growth of pomelo plant in the growing to media as labeled T1 to T3 as compared to a standard mean sample, that of the soil, T4. The computed value of t at pgt;. 05 is 1. 23 and 2. 47 less than the critical value 2. 920. This result revealed that there is no significant difference between soil and animal manure-parboiled rice hulls as growing media of pomelo plant. While the greater tcomputed value of T1 and T2 divulged that there is a significant difference between the growth rate of pomelo in the soil and in fresh rice bran (T1) and hulls (T2). This proves that agricultural wastes can be used as growing media for pomelo seedlings. This also affirms that agricultural wastes can help plant breeders to lessen expenses in terms of growing media necessary for plant growth.

Martin Luther King and Malcolm X Essay Example for Free
Martin Luther King and Malcolm X Essay Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X were very important to our countryââ¬â¢s history. They are revolutionary men. They fought battles against a bigoted nation. They fought for what they believed was right. The two gentlemen however fought very different battles although they seem to be fighting the same prejudice. If you ask anyone today, that remembers the movement, ââ¬ËWho was Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr? The opinions you will hear will be quite contrary to each other. The two men were very influential in American culture. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were able to use the media to allow their voices to be heard. I will be explaining the reasons why these two gentlemen fought such extreme battles fueled by passion and hate. The media have always been a presence during the movement of the 60ââ¬â¢s. During the time of the movement the nation was glued to the media. Martin Luther King, Jr. , is known for his nonviolent manner for leading a protest. As Martin Luther King led his followers, he taught them protest with respect and dignity. Martin Luther King once said, in regard to his nonviolent approach, ââ¬Å"Violence, as a way of achieving racial justice, is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. â⬠(Cassutto, 2008). Martin Luther King grew up in a religious family. He comes from educated parents that taught him to be humble. One of the famous non violent protests that Martin Luther King led was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Instead of fighting the cause with violence, King chose to simply stop riding the buses all together in protest of the segregation police preventing blacks to ride anywhere other than the back of the bus according to (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007). Instead of violence, King and others posted signs at every bus stop that read, ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t ride the bus today, donââ¬â¢t ride it for freedomâ⬠, as stated by (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007) According to, (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007), the protesters would not fight back when the whites against segregation would fight or attack the protesters which turned out to be a very powerful move. According to (Moultan, Phillips, Styza, Gonzales, 2007), after 381 days of boycotting the bus system they went to the Supreme Court. Eventually they Supreme Court ruled that is unconstitutional to separate people based on the color of their skin. This is proof that with determination and patience, laws can be changed without the use of violence. Malcolm X wanted the same thing Malcolm X did, freedom. Malcolm X, however, took a very different approach than Martin Luther King did. He felt violence was a way to handle the injustice of segregation. Malcolm X was a follower of the Nation of Islam. Until he made his journey to Mecca, he preached about how all whites are the devils. After his journey to Mecca he saw a different way of approaching the segregation and hatred of whites. Malcolm X still believed in violence when came to fighting for what he felt was right according to, (Simkin, 2003). (Simkin, 2003) states that Malcolm X said in a speech in March of 19I am for violence if non-violence means we continue postponing a solution to the American black mans problem just to avoid violence. I dont go for non-violence if it also means a delayed solution. To me a delayed solution is a non-solution. Or Ill say it another way. If it must take violence to get the black man his human rights in this country, Im for violence exactly as you know the Irish, the Poles, or Jews would be if they were flagrantly discriminated against. (Simkin, 2003) In conclusion, the two men had an extraordinary will to change the future for what they believed was right. The Medias involvement is how we still know today what these men did for this country. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King both took a different approach when they fought for their beliefs. The one thing they had in common was the cause, freedom.

Organisational Culture of Etisalat
Organisational Culture of Etisalat Etisalat ââ¬â Organizational Culture Executive Summary: The below discussion is a research into the organizational culture aspect of the company Etisalat. In this respect we could say that the discussion gives an idea of the concept of organizational culture and a company brief of Etisalat. Next the discussion reveals the organizational culture of the company Etisalat and explains the same and draws an alignment of organizational culture of the company with the Hofstede theory. Next the discussion discusses the positive aspects of the company culture. The conclusion draws oneââ¬â¢s attention to the negative impact of the Etisalat organizational culture and finally the discussion ends with recommendations for better performance of the company in future Introduction: The aspect of organizational culture comprises a very important aspect of the management studies of the current times. In fact the feature of organizational culture also reveal a considerable portion of the organization work ambience and the strategic approaches that the company will be having in dealing the various situations. In other words the organizational culture represents the views, beliefs, values and the opinions of the members of the organization, both the employees and the management of the company. Etisalat or the Emirates telecommunications Corporations is the largest telecom company of the region. The company was initially a British company which was later bought out by the government of the nation of UAE and nearly 60% of the shares was retained by the government of the nation and the rest of the 40% of the shares were made available for the general masses. In the following discussion we will be illustrating certain aspects of the organizational culture of the company Etisalat ââ¬â the global telecom giant, which has a organizational culture much hued by the inherent beliefs of the Islam society. Body of the Discussion: In this part of the discussion we will be looking at the various aspects of the organizational culture that prevails in the context of the company Etisalat. Etisalat Organizational Culture: The company Etisalat or the Emirates telecommunication Corporation was initially incepted to provide a world class telecommunication system to the UAE. However in the coming times the company did expand in the other parts of the Middle East and also parts of Asia. Currently the company is operating in nearly 18 countries all over the world and has a client base of more than 150 million users. In the course of its growth we see that the company has maintained a very employee oriented approach. One of the most initial and crucial aspect to which the management of the company has paid detailed attention is the development of its employees. The element of employee dynamism and its enhancement does comprise to be an essential feature of the companyââ¬â¢s internal dynamics. Once again we see that the element of ethics again is a very important criterion for the company of Etisalat. As an essential feature of the organizational culture both the management and the employees of the company do have very positive attitude towards the feature of training and development. In this case we see that the management of the company do have a very positive and keen attitude towards training its employees so that they come up with better and innovative ideas in the future that would be elemental in the development of the company. Once again we see that the organizational culture of the company does reflect that the management of the company is quite forward looking and progressive in nature and is interested in an aggressive marketing endeavour as per which the company is making emergence in new companies and is also strengthening its position through acquisitions and mergers. Again the company culture seems to be pretty much in sync with the commercially progressive culture of the nation of the United Arab Emirates. Since we see that the company in its endeavour to enter new markets are also not hesitant to make some considerable investment into the genre of market and brand building. In addition to the same we see that the job responsibility of all the elements and the members of the company are treated with an equal amount of importance and significance. In this case we see that the managers and the team leads of the company do like to pay a close level of attention to the performance standards of all the team members. Favouritism is not fostered in the Company as the same could lead to some very serious consequences. In this connection one could explain that a collective performance stands as imperative as per the culture of the company. On the other hand we also observe that the company tries to rise above the gender bias that is but a marked feature of the United Arab Emirates society. We do observe that some of the senior and the significant positions are again chaired by the female employees of the firm and the firm also encourages a larger recruitment of the female candidates irrespective of the position. Truly in the current times as per the tides of globalization, the company has raised much above the Middle Eastern values and has rightfully become a global organization in terms of the organizational culture. Organizational Culture Theories: One of the very old and often used theories that is applied to explain the concept of Organizational Culture is that of the Hofstede theory. Hofstede in his theory of organizational culture has been pressing on the factor that different geographical regions and nations does contribute to the fabrication of the organizational culture. The element of organization culture does reflect the facet of mental programs and thinking patterns and the process of social actions. In this respect it needs to be said that element of organizational culture also does greatly depend on the facet of the ethics and the culture of the society and the nation as a whole in which the company is operational. In the scope of the theory we can see that Hofstede has reflected on certain facets that will help a company to have a progressive and forward looking organizational culture. In this case we see that the noted scholar did happen to press on the facts that the power distance or the distance between the several layers of the organization has to be minimized. Once again the company has to learn to avoid uncertainty that might arise in the future. The company culture has concentrate on both the elements of individualism as well as that of collectivism. The company must also rise above the facets of feminism and Masculinity and must also be having both Long term and Short term orientation. In this respect we can say that the organization Etisalat is quite in alignment with the belief and the theories of the concept that was propagated by Hofstede. To illustrate the same we can explain the following points: The element of power distance is kept in mind and is followed by the management of the company Etisalat. We see that within the company in order to get better and innovative ideas from the elements of the company from all the layers of the hierarchical system, consolidation and centralization of power is generally discouraged and an open and cordial forum is maintained as per which the various employees of the company can come up with various ideas and concepts. In terms of uncertainty avoidance we see that the company looks forward to try only those ideas and concepts that seem quite tangible and what the employees of the company pull through. The company again tries to serve and deliver results to both its employees as well as the customers alike. Once again in the case of collectivism and individualism we see that the company do maintain a fine balance as per which the performance of all the individual employees are kept in mind and that the performance of the teams are pondered upon which together balances collectivism and also individualism. Although the society of the nation UAE do have a bias towards the male elements of the society as per which we see that the best options in all the fields are kept aside for the males of the society, yet in the case of Etisalat we see that the company does give a fair chance to the female employees who are also working in some of the most significant positions of the company. From the last aspect we see that the in terms of the long term orientations the eastern countries are given a preference than the short term western countries. Positive and negative impacts: It has often been cited that the feature of organizational culture often plays a very important role in the development of the organization and also the various operational and strategic styles and patterns that the same incorporates. In this case we can hence conclude that the element of organizational culture has a prominent role in the success or the failure of the company. In fact the decisive decisions that the management often takes are quite regularly influenced by the organizational culture of the company. In the case of the company Etisalat we see that the situation is certainly no different. In this case we observe that the organizational culture has a number of positive impacts on the company. They are as follows: The organizational culture helps the employees of the company to come up with new ideas as a result of which we see that the company always has some new idea up its sleeve that the management tries out for the better performance of the company in the future. It also enhances the personal skills and the confidence of the company. The working ambience of the company turns out to be a rather positive one and we see that the company and its employees have a positive attitude that helps them proceed towards growth and success. Quintessentially we see that the organizational culture does have a strong influence on the agenda of the company going global. It could be said that the forward moving attitude of the companyââ¬â¢s internal elements finally gave the Company and its management the impetus to move ahead and move into the foreign and the maiden markets of the other countries in the Middle East, Africa and now in Asia. Once again we also see that the company has a presence in the nations of the UK and the USA. We also see that the company other than the telecommunication industry also is operational in the other industries such as the internet industry and the industry of voice trafficking. This diversification which is again an important element in the current times of stiff competition is a product of the organizational culture that has given rise to innovative ideas. The company again has made some very unique contributions to the up gradation of the female employees and has given career options to several woman of the nation. This has also helped the image of the company on the global scenario. Conclusion: On a concluding note it could be said that the element of organizational culture does play a very important role in the development and the growth of a country. This is one aspect that has been made evident from the case of the Company Emirates telecommunication Corporation or the brand Etisalat. However we can say that the organizational culture of the company has led the company to rest a comparatively low emphasis on the marketing of its products in the western world such as the US and the European markets. However these markets could prove to be rather important to the profit and the interest of the company in the longer run. In this case we see that the company could might as well think of options and plans that will help the firm to get a proper and strong introduction in the western market. Recommendation: The company in its endeavour to get an introduction in the western market could look forward to come up with aggressive marketing endeavours so that the company could have a noted and a marked entry into the markets of the UK and the US. Once again the company since is already quite a big name in the Middle East and the African region could start by giving some rebates or introductory offers on its connections. Moreover we also see that the company is operational in just the communication or the service part of the business, with a passing phase the company could also get into the business of manufacturing handsets that could also be introduced to the markets in different parts of the globe.

Comparison of East and West African food and the influence they had in
This paper will compare and contrast the different eating habits and examine the cultural dining of West Africa to East Africa. Africans like most of the world outside of American and London arenââ¬â¢t fanatical on fast food even though it is becoming more popular most people eat at home or at relatives or friends home. Even Africans living outside of Africa love to cook rather than dine out in most cases. This report was based on interviews from Africans who grew up in traditional African homes in Africa. All references have been crossed checked and stories verified on how most African dishes are prepared, and their history. More research was done by the books listed, as well as other references such as internet sites. Most of this data has been collected over years of experience of living with Africans from both West and East Africa. It is custom when one person is cooking they do not just cook for themselves, or even their family but for anybody who might drop by unexpected. Big pots are used to cook and food is rarely wasted because the people here are very close and always welcomed to each otherââ¬â¢s homes. That is what is the best part of being Africa, communities are still one, when one eats everybody eats. Throughout this paper Africans dishes consisting of: chicken, fish, goat, beef, shrimp, and even crab. As well as fruits such as: oranges, bananas, guava, mangos are very popular and will be listed. African vegetables are just like anywhere else carrots, peas, and corns as well as exotic roots that are hard to find in the states like cassava, efo, and cola nut. African cuisine combines traditional fruits and vegetables, meats and fish from the oceans that surrounds the continent, and a marinade of cultures, colonies, trade routes, and history. Africa cuisine is as broad as the continent, from dry desert, to tropical wetlands, plains, and jungle. The media has given Westerners the wrong impression of Africa, from the movies showing colonization to savages misrepresenting the birthplace of all man. African cuisine is on the rise in the U.S., due to the growing popularity as Africans bring the dishes of their country to family restaurants to this country. To an outsider of this culture it is impossible to categorize African food. I have even seen cooking shows call plantains (a starchy banana) a Cuban or Spaniard dish but it originated on both coast of Afr... ...de and remixed other culture recipes and used it for their own. à à à à à The most important lesson in this paper is to see how culture came from Africa, and that we are all the same. Learning about different cultures is vital for man kind to survive, many wars are fought because of ignorance. Even in Africa food is important and cherished. With this paper my appreciation of African food has increased, as well as my menu selection. I enjoy African food because there is not much diary in the typical African diet. References 1. President Bill Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal Essay -- William Jeffe
Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal On January 17th, 1998, President Clinton videotaped a deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit against him. December 19th, eleven months later, Bill Clinton became only the second president in our nationââ¬â¢s history to face impeachment from congress. The 1998-1999 was a tumultuous year for the President, the media, and the American people as a whole. Yet, the most intriguing and surprising aspect of the scandal was not that Bill Clinton would ever cheat on his wife or that his administration would survive such a terrible scandal. Nor was it a revelation that the media would be zealously intrigued by a sex scandal involving the President. The one aspect of the Lewinksy Scandal that was truly interesting was the response of the public. Despite the knowledge that Clinton had an affair with an intern and probably lied about it, Clintonââ¬â¢s job approval rating did not decrease or even stay the sameââ¬â his ratings rose to levels approaching 70% Every time a new damning piece of evidence came to light, media pundits everywhere believed that Clintonââ¬â¢s ratings would fall. Yet, they were wrong. The Republican Party believed that the scandal would finally bring down Clinton and his popular support. They also were wrong and paid a considerable political price. How did this happen? To help understand and explain this phenomenon, I will examine three political actors -- the President, the media, and the public ââ¬â and their relationship with each other. I will discuss President Clintonââ¬â¢s past and his history of scandals. The way that each actor has dealt with Clintonââ¬â¢s scandal-ridden past has had an important effect on how each responded to and was affected by the Lewinsky Scandal. Professional Sports Teams Move - Cities Fight To Keep Them Essay
Professional Sports Teams Move - Cities Fight To Keep Them à à à à à Professional sports, like most of our popular culture, can be understood only partly by through its exiting plays and tremendous athletes. Baseball and football most of all are not only games anymore but also hardcore businesses. As businesses, sports leagues can be as conniving, deceitful, and manipulative as any other businesses in the world. No matter what the circumstances are, it seems that Politicians are always some how right around the corner from the world of sports. These Politicians look to exploit both the cultural and the economic dimensions of the sports for their own purposes. This is what is known in the sports industry as ââ¬Å"playing the fieldâ⬠. à à à à à In the last decade, almost all the big cities in the United States, and a few small cities as well, have battled with each other for the right to host big league franchises. Cities spend hundreds of millions of dollars to build new stadiums and offer enticements to private franchise owners. Politicians often push for stadiums and other favors to teams despite not having support from neighborhoods and general opposition across the whole city, especially where these high dollar stadiums would be built. à à à à à Some of the most prolific franchises in sports, like the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Colts of the National Football League, have moved to other cities breaking off their loyalty to the hometown fans. More important than the actual moves are the more frequent threatened moves. When teams ââ¬Å"play the fieldâ⬠and explore the option of playing in other cities they are able to lure interested cities into giving them just about any royalty they want. New stadiums are only the beginning. The willingness to threaten departure has secured for teams a variety of land deals, lower taxes, more revenues from parking and concessions, control of stadium operations, guaranteed ticket sales, renovation of stadiums with luxury seating, control over neighborhoods and transportation systems, and thatââ¬â¢s only the beginning of the list. à à à à à Franchises are able to control their own destinies and have major advantages over city officials. This is what as known in the sports industry as the ââ¬Å"uneven playing fieldâ⬠. City officials react to the offensive stra... ...s left Baltimore to play in Indianapolis, where they havenââ¬â¢t had a championship season since they left. à à à à à Ironically, the Cleveland Browns of the NFL who were a playoff caliber team every year, who had loyal fans and good attendance, lost their team to the city of Baltimore. Owner Art Modell moved his Cleveland Browns team to the city of Baltimore, with the promise of a cost free state of the art stadium, built by tax payers, and a larger market for their team to play in. The city of Baltimore welcomed the team wholeheartedly, after going through the same loss of a team, the Colts. The team is know called the Baltimore Ravens and play in a beautiful stadium complex in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. They have great fan support and Baltimore is once again a football town. The city of Cleveland on the other hand has been in shock after losing a team they loved and supported and are not very fond of Art Modell. The city of Cleveland will once again become a football town, with the expansion Cleveland Browns preparing for their inaugural season, beginning in the fall 1999. The city is once again very excited about the NFL and the ââ¬Å"Dog Poundâ⬠will live again.

Fossils Nurse Essay
A fossil is the prehistoric remains of a plant or an animal. Fossils are usually are kept at their best when they are buried under many layers of sand and mud. Under the great pressure from the ground, the sand and the mud become sedimentary rock. The minerals combine forming a mould of the plant or animal under the ground. A fossil can be a trace fossil or a body fossil. A body fossil is what actual organic material from a creature or plant (like a bone). Trace fossils are signs of plants and animal activity that have been preserved in rock. For example, dinosaur tracks, trails and dung are all trace fossils. A body fossil is usually composed of bones of an animal. Preservation of the ââ¬Å"softâ⬠tissue of a body is rare especially over long periods of time. Most body fossils are made when an animal dies and falls, or is washed into a steam, and is covered with mud. In a few cases, though, fossils have been preserved by freezing (as with mammoths in Siberia and Alaska) or when the animals have become stuck and died in a tar pit (such as the famous La Brea tar pit near Los Angeles, California). Sometimes a fossil is the result of a volcanic eruption. Ash and mud from the volcano can cover animals and plants killing them at the same time. Geology is the study of the Earth, the materials of which it is made, the structure of those materials, and the processes acting upon them. It is also the study of organisms that have inhabited our planet. An important part of geology is the study of how Earths materials, structures, processes and organisms have changed over time. Fossils are linked to geology because, it is the study on how the world has build up over the years and fossils are animals and plants from over the years. They have changed over time because they have become smaller and form in different ways like freezing and volcanic eruptions. Over the years fossils have told us about life forms we had no idea about and is proved with the fossils or bones we have today in museums. This is how fossils are linked to geology.
